Famagusta is a greatly historical city on the east coast of Cyprus, and just east of the capital, Nicosia. It is home to the deepest harbour on the island and one of the most important ports in the Mediterranean.
You will find some of the island’s most spectacular ruins in Famagusta and the nearby town of Salamis, with ancient Roman baths, an amphitheatre and royal tombs all to be found. Also worth seeing are the numerous castles (Kantara, Nitovikla and Othello) and the mosques and monasteries.
Famagusta is also known for its stretching sunny beaches. Some are owned by hotels and charge a fee but there are others that also have bars, loungers and sunshades. Ideal spots for snorkeling and swimming are also to be found.
